 The Highlands Ranch Mansion’s Modern Era: 1981-2021


The Highlands Ranch Mansion has evolved over the past 130 years since the first home was built on the site in 1891. However, in the last 40 years, this 27,000-square-foot historic landmark has seen a community grow up around it and embrace it for its rich history. Learn about the Mansion’s modern history over the last 40 years as Highlands Ranch grew and evolved. Highlights of the 2010-2012 renovation will be shared.



Susie Appleby, Volunteer & Historic Programs Coordinator  

Susie Appleby has been employed as the Volunteer and Historic Program Coordinator at the Highlands Ranch Mansion since 2016. Her job entails working with the Mansion’s volunteers, running the historical tour program, and coordinating all of the Mansion’s community events. Before her employment, she served as a Mansion volunteer for more than 20 years, playing a key role in the historical research and preservation of the building. She earned her master’s degree in western and public history in 1995, and published her master’s thesis into a book called Fading Past: The Story of Douglas County, Colorado. She has lived in Highlands Ranch since 1996 with her husband and two children.


Sherry Eppers, Community Relations Manager

Sherry Eppers, Community Relations Manager, has been an employee of the Highlands Ranch Metro District for 24 years, since 1997. She is responsible for the organizations’ public relations and communications projects, including publications, websites social media and electronic communications management, media relations, community events and management of volunteer programs. She holds a BA in Public Relations from Eastern Kentucky University and has studied communications in a graduate program at the University of Denver. Sherry is an active volunteer in Highlands Ranch. She and her husband, Chris, have two children and live in Highlands Ranch.
